Hydration fundamentals

What electrolytes actually do, and how to think about fluid intake around training.

Hydration is not only about volume of water. Fluid balance also depends on the minerals dissolved in it — primarily sodium, potassium and magnesium — which is why a drink mix can feel different from plain water during long or hot efforts.

A practical starting point: drink to thirst through the day, and pay closer attention around sessions that are long, hot, or unusually sweaty. Notice how you feel afterwards and adjust.
